Roots blower are classified as two lobe and three lobe due to rotor profile. For higher efficiency, three lobed roots blower are most adopted now. Three lobed roots blower has lower noise and stable operation compared to two lobe roots blower.

Roots blower mostly drive through V-belt, direct-coupling is also used for a relatively fixed speed with higher transportation efficiency.
