A piston ring is a metallic split ring that is attached to the outer diameter of a piston in an internal combustion engine or steam engine.

The main functions of piston rings in engines are:
Sealing the combustion chamber so that there is minimal loss of gases to the crank case.
Improving heat transfer from the piston to the cylinder wall.
Maintaining the proper quantity of the oil between the piston and the cylinder wall
Regulating engine oil consumption by scraping oil from the cylinder walls back to the sump.
Most piston rings are made from cast iron or steel.
The following are the installation and use instructions of piston rings for Roots blowers for the reference of users:
1.Check whether the fit clearance between the ring and the ring groove is normal. Whether the piston ring groove is uneven and whether there is a flare. Check the smoothness and roundness of the shaft hole of the wall panel or the inner wall of the wall panel partition.
2. Remove carbon deposits from the ring groove (ie, the bushing ring groove).
3. The two ends of the opening should not be warped axially during installation.
4. During installation, the expansion of the opening should not exceed eight times the diameter of the piston ring, otherwise, the piston ring may be broken and deformed.
5.When the piston ring is installed, the qualified oil or thin grease should be smeared on the piston ring and the ring groove.
6. After the ring is installed, the piston ring should be able to rotate slightly on the ring groove.
7. The openings of the piston rings must be staggered when they are installed.
8. When installing the piston ring on site, special attention should be paid to avoid forcibly entering the ring.
